This serves as technical guide describing how to use the BarnDealer Marketplace Export. These instructions will be for posting on a computer. If you are trying to use a mobile device, there may be difference but the instructions will generally be the same.

Facebook doesn't typically allow you to post to Marketplace from your business profile so you will need to make sure that you are logged onto your personal profile. Check out our introduction article to Facebook Marketplace here: Facebook Marketplace: Introduction Guide

In this article, you will find:

Facebook has pretty strict rules and regulations about posting on Marketplace as a business and using it to advertise without paying for ads. Make sure to read all the Terms and Conditions on Facebook (Facebook.com/help)

Step 1. Downloading the Marketplace Export document

  1. Navigate to your Admin Portal (YourDomain.com/admin/buildings)
  2. Click the Marketplace Export button in the top right
  3. This will download a .csv file to your default download location.
    • The download will, by default be called inventory -year-month-date-time (e.g. inventory-2025-11-13-0453.csv)

Step 2. Uploading the Marketplace listings

  1. Navigate to Facebook.com/Marketplace
    • Make sure to read all the Terms and Conditions on Facebook about posting on Marketplace (Facebook.com/help)
  2.  Choose the option to "Create multiple listings"
  3. You will go to a screen where you have the option between "Add listings manually" or "Upload a spreadsheet". Choose Upload a spreadsheet
  4. A popup will come up and ask if you want to download the template or upload your own spreadsheet. Choose Upload spreadsheet
  5. You will be prompted to upload a document. Make sure to choose the document that you just downloaded in Step 1

Step 3. Make Edits and Verify information

Go through your buildings and make edits if information isn't correct. Despite our best efforts in optimizing the download for ease of use, there are often issues when Facebook tries to "grab" the information off the document.

Here are things to verify:

  • Photos/Videos - Facebook will require at least one photo to be uploaded. Unfortunately, it's not possible at this time to make sure that photos are included in your download correctly so you will need to take and upload photos
    • Use Facebook's "mobile photo upload tool" to do this quickly!
  • Price Condition - Facebook is not great at detecting and uploading large price amounts and typically converts thousands to single dollars (e.g. $3,456.78 becomes $3). Fortunately you can refer to the download you made to quickly edit prices.
  • Category - Facebook will require a category on each posting. Choose the correct
    • We recommend using Home & Kitchen > Storage & Organization > Other Storage & Organization as the category but others may work as well.

Due to Facebook’s constantly evolving platform, some information in this article may become outdated. We recommend staying up to date with the latest Facebook Marketplace best practices through additional research.
